Rays are seen as guardians of the sea. They represent a sense of power and protection.
Because the ray is able to navigate the ocean and the different depths, it is a reminder that we will get to our destination if we keep moving forward.
They are totems to some Torres Strait Tribal groups. The colours and patterns I use on my
artworks are the colours and patterns I see in and around the ocean, from the corals to the sand
lines and also patterns of the waves and how the tide moves.
