AQUATICA

When I took up surfing with my teenage son, we started visiting the coastal breaks near my home town, Melbourne, practically every weekend.  At first I didn't notice the tangles of washed up seaweed along the shoreline, but over time became fascinated by their strange beauty, and embarked on documenting them.  Photographed at high resolution on a flat bed scanner, the images are available as large scale photographic prints which reveal with incredible detail the beauty of a feature our coastal dwelling nation often overlooks.  Collaborating with a marine biologist to name each work, I discovered that most of the seaweed is indigenous to South Eastern Australia, and this region is the most biologically diverse seaweed habitat in the world.
