Overview

Moments on Country brings together a selection of works by artists living and working on their homelands through community-governed Aboriginal Art and Craft Centres. Drawn from remote art centres across Australia, these paintings reflect a breadth of cultural knowledge, material expression and lived connection to Country.

Spanning a full spectrum of colour, style and approach, the exhibition reveals the diversity of contemporary Indigenous artistic voices. Each work carries its own rhythm and authority—grounded in place, yet expansive in its visual language.

Selected by Mark Chapman through his ongoing connections with artists and art centres, these paintings have been chosen for their resonance and strength. Some are exhibited for the first time in Melbourne, and others are worth another look in a new context.

Moments on Country offers an encounter of Country through works that hold presence—quietly powerful, deeply rooted, and unmistakably alive.
